Mirai bicolour

I sow its seeds a month ago.  It germinates after 3 days.
a week old corn seedling

Surprisingly it starts to produce male flower (tassel) after a month.

this photo is taken today

Interesting fact about corn is that  a tassel will appear first followed by a female flower. The height this corn is supposed to be 5 to 6 feet. But this one is only 2.5 feet and still growing.

I used to grow vegetables  but i have to stop after my sister and my brother beg me not to grow it. Their reason? They are tired of eating the same vegetables year after year:-)) I used to grow kangkong, kale, cauliflower, pak choy, cucumber, brocolli, Yard long bean and tricolour amarantus. Now they  have flown the nest i'm growing veggie again but only in pots, enough for 2 people.

Pickle maman ( Cleome Gynandra)

This month I’ll be blogging about food, namely fruit and vegetable that i grow.  This is Cleome Gynandra.  In my hometown the young stem is pickled. It makes a tasty meal.
It is a kind of “sow and neglect it” plant. It will germinate after the rain or if you water it after a few days and it can be harvest in 1 to 2 weeks

This a a bundle of cleome that i harvest last week

Pickle cleome ready to be eaten

Berries

In addition to local fruits i also love to eat berry, my legacy from a stint in Europe. Try to grow berry (raspberry, blueberry, blackberry and strawberry).
Despite doing all that i can to simulate its natural condition, only a few strawberries germinate.

This strawberry seedling is the sole survivor of caterpillars attack.

This strawberry plant has produced  runners. Now i have 7 pots of strawberry plant . However after 5 months there is still no fruit!

But i have mulberry which is the favourite of house sparrow. Most of the time they   end up with bigger share than me.

I also have seedling of local berry ( pokok kemunting) . It is very slow growing; i wonder how long it will take before I can taste the fruit of my labour.
